Tender for construction of Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline extended, green permit requested too

The tender for the construction of the oil pipeline between Hungary and Serbia has been extended until February 26. The original deadline for submitting bids for the tender announced at the end of December was February 5, and since the announcement, the tender has had as many as five corrections, which mainly related to changes in the tender documentation due to ambiguities. The public procurement announced by Transnafta ad Pancevo as the contractor includes construction works and expert supervision of the construction of this main oil pipeline, the goal of which is to diversify import routes and more securely supply the domestic market with oil.

Let us remind that the only route from which Serbia can currently import oil is via Croatia and the Janaf oil pipeline.

The new oil pipeline will enable Serbia to receive oil from Hungary, through whose territory the Druzhba oil pipeline passes, and which supplies most of Europe with crude oil. The project is being implemented for the transport of REB (“Russian Export Blend”) oil.

The starting point of the Hungary-Novi Sad main oil pipeline is near the Horgos border crossing, northeast of the settlement of Horgos, and the end point of the oil pipeline is the Transnafta Terminal in Novi Sad.

The oil pipeline will be approximately 113 km long on the territory of Serbia, entirely underground, with an annual capacity of 5.5 million tons of oil per year.

The route of the linear part of the main oil pipeline with accompanying facilities runs through the territories of the municipalities of Kanjiza, Senta, Ada, Becej, Zabalj and the city of Novi Sad. The main direction of the route is from north to south.

The value of the work was previously estimated at approximately EUR 157 million, for the Serbian section of the oil pipeline.

For this project, Transnafta has also submitted a request for a decision on the need for an environmental impact assessment of the project, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced today.
