Technical specifications of Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline harmonized, negotiations about capacities and financing of construction to continue – Potential construction of nuclear power plants far away

The technical specifications of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline have been harmonized, and the companies NIS, Transnafta and MOL are to continue negotiations about the capacities and the financial aspect of the construction, stated the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, at a meeting with the ambassador of Russia, Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko.

When it comes to nuclear energy, Botsan-Kharchenko said that the Russian Federation was interested in establishing cooperation with Serbia in the field of peacetime use of that energy. The minister said that the preliminary technical study on peacetime implementation in Serbia had been finished and that the next development steps had been defined, but that the potential construction of a nuclear power plant was still far away.

– Serbia respects the guidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency and our law has recognized that. We are now talking about the studies that we need in order to be able about the potential construction of a nuclear power plant no sooner than five years from now. We need technical assistance, exchange of knowledge, strengthening of human capacities, in order to create the staff that will be able to run the power plant in the future and we are ready to cooperate with relevant partners. We are currently preparing an institutional framework, primarily in our ministry, then we have to establish a regulatory body for nuclear energy – said Djedovic Handanovic.
