Serbia ending 2025 with more than 3,600 MW of green energy

Serbia is ending the outgoing year 2025 with new green megawatts on the grid and entering the new year 2026 with 3,683.4 MW of green energy installed. At the end of 2025, the Kostolac wind farm (66 MW) and the Cibuk 2 wind farm (133 MW of the total capacity of 155 MW are on the grid) were put into trial operation, so Serbia has 13 operational wind farms on the grid with a total capacity of 807 MW, and it is expected to exceed 1 GW in the first half of 2026, reports the RES Serbia portal.

Solar power plants occupy a capacity of 192.2 MW, as well as 126.1 MW of buyer-producers. According to data from the Ministry of Mining and Energy, there are 2,507 MW of hydroelectric power plants on the grid, as well as two reversible hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 639 MW. 48 biogas power plants with a total capacity of 48.7 MW and a biomass power plant with a capacity of 2.4 MW have also been connected.

Serbia has set a goal to reach a 45.2% share of renewable sources in electricity production by 2030. Given the stall in the implementation of numerous projects, the years of energy transition that lie ahead will be very challenging.
