US sanctions against Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) will come into effect on Thursday at 6 am, unless an agreement is reached in the short term, writes the Nova.rs website.

This was confirmed to Nova.rs by several well-informed sources. NIS has requested a new postponement of the sanctions from the US. A request has been sent for the issuance of a special license that would allow the company to continue operating after October 8, when the deadline set by the previous license expires.

– The results of the negotiations have not borne fruit so far. If the sanctions come into effect, we hope that an agreement will be reached in the short term – said the Nova.rs source.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also spoke about the sanctions against NIS, emphasizing that Serbia has nothing more to discuss with the Americans on this topic and that he is sure that after a short time, the Croatian oil pipeline JANAF will also stop supplying oil to Serbia.
