Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) has announced that, on September 28, it filed a new application with the US Treasury Department for a special license that would defer the full application of sanctions and allow the company to continue operating. NIS also filed an additional application to be removed from the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list. This is a lengthy and complex process, and the initial application was sent on March 14 of this year, the statement says.

In January this year, the USA introduced sanctions on NIS due to the Russian share in the ownership. So far, the sanctions have been postponed six times, last time on October 1, but Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that the deadline has been additionally extended by October 8 or 9.
