Additional quantities gas to Serbia from Azerbaijan during winter – Signing of contract for construction of gas power plant in Nis also announced

Serbian Parliament President Ana Brnabic stated in Baku that Serbia would receive additional gas quantities from Azerbaijan during the winter months.

– In addition to the already agreed gas quantities, at the explicit request of President (of Serbia Aleksandar) Vucic, Azerbaijan will meet the requirement to provide additional gas quantities for Serbia during the winter months. This will be very important for the upcoming winter – she told Serbian journalists after meetings with senior officials in Baku.

She began her visit to Azerbaijan yesterday by laying wreaths at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor, as well as at the “Eternal Flame” monument in the Martyrs’ Lane.

She met with President of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Minister of Finance and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan Sahil Babayev, as well as with Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.

All of them, she stated, told her in their meetings that Serbia was a priority and that they would meet everything that its officials asked for.

The contract for the construction of a gas power plant in Nis, which has already been agreed upon and is a joint investment of the two countries worth EUR 600 million, will be signed at the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council, which will be held, as she said, when it suits the presidents of Serbia and Azerbaijan.

– How important Azerbaijan is and how much it will be for energy, especially in Europe, is best demonstrated by the information that the Azerbaijani oil company SOCAR has bought the Italian oil company API for an incredible EUR 3 billion – she emphasized.

– Today, energy security is an integral part of national security, and in that sense, Azerbaijan is one of our most important and loyal friends – she said, assessing yesterday’s visit as successful.
