The financing of the project of the construction of the Pumped-Storage Hydro Power Plant Bistrica was one of the main topics of the meeting between the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, and a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). At the meeting, held within the fourth visit of the expert team if JICA to Serbia, there was talk about the preliminary estimates of the value of the project prepared by the agency’s consultants, the ministry announced.

As said, the minister asked the JICA representatives for the project assessment to be sped up, so that the construction might begin as soon as possible.

– The PSHPP Bistrica is a project of strategic importance for Serbia, due to the energy stability and the balancing of the production from solar power plants and wind farms, whose capacity will considerably increase in the coming years, and with that, their importance to our energy system as well – said Djedovic Handanovic.

She also said that the strategic importance of Bistrica had been confirmed by the updated list of priority projects in the energy sector by the end of the decade, adopted by the Government of Serbia and entailing a certain dynamic of implementation for strategically important projects.

– Considering the successful cooperation with JICA in previous projects and this one, which has also been officially supported by the Japanese government, it is very important for everybody involved to work together for the project to be realized within the planned deadlines – said the minister.

The new JICA director for Europe, Takahiro Goto, said that the early estimates were the basis which would be developed in more detail in a dialogue with the Serbian side.

At the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of EPS, there was also talk about the next steps in the preparation of technical documentation, the harmonization of the technical solutions for the stability of the Radoinja dam within the project and the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study, which is a key document for the approval of financing by JICA.
