Djedovic Handanovic: Urgent signing of Memorandum of Understanding on construction of pumped-storage hydro power plant Djerdap 3 agreed

The plan is for the Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the pumped-storage hydro power plant Djerdap 3 to be signed as soon as possible, and the memorandum is currently in the phase of being harmonized, announced the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, following a conversation with Ivan Bogdan, the Minister of Energy of Romania.

The topic of the conversation, as the minister said on her social media profiles, was the construction of new energy capacities in the interest of both countries.

– The potential construction of this pumped-storage hydro power plant can improve the stability of the electrical energy systems, facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the regional energy network and also secure solutions for the seasonal storage of electrical energy, in the interest of both sides – she pointed out.

The minister and her Romanian colleague also talked about the Serbia-Romania gas interconnection, which should be completed in the next two and a half years.

– A technical agreement between the gas companies, Srbijagas and Romanian Transgaz, has been signed, and by this route, we will connect to the BRUA gas pipeline and gas sites in Romania. With Romania, we have a tradition of several decades of good neighborly relations, friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries, the experience of joint management of energy resources and infrastructure projects of strategic importance, and on those foundations, we are continuing to build capacities which will improve the energy security of both countries – concluded Djedovic Handanovic.
