September or early October final deadline for opening of high-speed railroad between Serbia and Hungary

Traffic between Belgrade and Budapest is expected to be established during this month or at the latest at the beginning of next month, announced Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Whether the rail section between Subotica and Budapest will finally be opened remains to be seen in the coming weeks, because let us remind that so far there have been several announcements about the imminent launch of this rail corridor.

By the way, about ten days ago, the “Soko” train began testing on the Hungarian section of the Belgrade - Budapest railroad, after which, as announced by the relevant ministry, the first simulations of the journey between the two capitals will begin.

As indicated at the end of August, the last test runs on the Hungarian side - checking the ETCS level 2 signaling and safety systems - have been completed.

As announced, eight pairs of trains are currently planned - two of them direct and six with stops, which will stop at the stations Belgrade Center-Prokop, New Belgrade, Novi Sad, Vrbas, Backa Topola and Subotica on the Serbian part of the line. The total duration of the journey, according to estimates from experts on both sides, is between three hours and 11 minutes and three hours and 23 minutes, for trains that would operate directly, without stopping on the Serbian side and with two stations on the Hungarian side, and this time would increase if an Intercity train were to run, by some 15 to 20 minutes, compared to the estimates for the direct line.
