Eight daily departures to Budapest planned, including two services continuing to Vienna

The high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest, and subsequently to Vienna, is expected to begin operations in "a month or two."

The planned 2026/2027 timetable envisages eight daily departures to Budapest, including the restoration of the rail connection with Vienna. The line connecting Belgrade Centre (Prokop) - Subotica - Kelebija - Budapest Keleti and Vienna Westbahnhof will be served by two pairs of Hungarian MAV trains: EC Avala and EC Ivo Andric.

Train 141 (Avala) from Vienna to Belgrade would depart at 8:00 a.m., with an expected arrival in Belgrade at 3:13 p.m. In the opposite direction, Train 144 (Avala) would leave Belgrade at 8:44 a.m., arrive in Budapest at 12:14 p.m., and reach Vienna at 4:00 p.m.

The train journey between Belgrade and Vienna will take just over seven hours (approximately seven hours and 15 minutes). According to the timetable published on the Belgrade Bus Station website, the bus journey between the two cities takes just under nine hours.

The afternoon service will be operated by Train 147 (Ivo Andric), departing Vienna at 2:00 p.m. and scheduled to arrive in Belgrade at 9:13 p.m. In the opposite direction, Train 148 (Ivo Andric) would depart Belgrade at 12:44 p.m., arrive in Budapest at 4:14 p.m., and continue to Vienna, arriving at 8:00 p.m.

Belgrade-Subotica-Budapest

Soko Train No. 150 will operate between Belgrade and Budapest without intermediate stops. It would depart Belgrade at 5:06 a.m. and arrive in Subotica at 6:21 a.m. After departing Subotica at 6:28 a.m., it would arrive in Budapest at 8:14 a.m.

Another non-stop Belgrade-Budapest service will be Soko Train No. 160, departing Belgrade at 7:32 p.m., arriving in Subotica at 8:47 p.m., departing at 8:54 p.m., and reaching Budapest at 10:49 p.m.

The non-stop Budapest-Belgrade service will be operated by Soko Train No. 151, departing Budapest at 5:09 a.m., arriving in Subotica at 7:03 a.m., departing again at 7:10 a.m., and reaching Prokop Station at 8:25 a.m.

The train journey from Belgrade to Budapest will take around three and a half hours, while the non-stop service will take approximately three hours and 15 minutes, meaning that the "express" service saves only around 15 minutes.

The high-speed trains will almost halve the travel time between the two cities compared with bus services, which, according to the timetable on the Belgrade Bus Station website, take around six hours.

In the evening, the non-stop Budapest-Belgrade service will be operated by Soko Train No. 161, departing Budapest at 7:45 p.m., arriving in Subotica at 9:29 p.m., departing again at 9:36 p.m., and reaching Prokop Station at 10:51 p.m.

All other departures will make brief stops at the stations in Novi Sad, Vrbas and Backa Topola.
