After August 24, simulation run on Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railroad: Traffic in the fall?

The tests of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railroad should be completed in August, and if the test runs are completed without problems, the establishment of passenger traffic should follow in the fall, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, Aleksandra Sofronijevic, and her Hungarian colleague, David Vitezy, stated in Subotica.

Representatives of the rail companies of both countries discussed the timetable on the high-speed railroad, while representatives of the competent authorities of Serbia and Hungary dealt with border and customs procedures.

– The agreement is that, once the necessary test runs are carried out, a simulation run will be carried out after August 24, so that we finally know that the railroad is safe and ready for use for all our citizens – said Sofronijevic.

Final system testing

Hungarian Minister David Vitezy said that the Chinese contractor had informed them that the final system testing on the Budapest-Kelebija section had begun the day before.

– We expect the testing to be completed in two weeks. Safety is the most important thing, I am optimistic and expect passenger traffic to be established in the fall – Vitezy stressed.

Minister Sofronijevic had previously stated that the Serbian side was fully prepared to establish passenger traffic.

The Hungarian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure recently announced that the start of passenger traffic between Budapest and Belgrade depended on the elimination of software errors in the European Train Control System on the Hungarian section of the high-speed railroad, emphasizing that passenger safety was an absolute priority.
