Port of Prahovo to get eighth berth and green terminal, investment worth EUR 45.5 million

The reconstruction and expansion of Port of Prahovo, a project worth EUR 45.5 million, is progressing according to plan, and upon completion of the works, this port should become one of the most modern on the Danube, the Serbian Government announced.

During a tour of the construction site, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic emphasized that the state recognizes the strategic importance of Port of Prahovo for the development of river transport and the economy of Eastern Serbia.

As part of the project, an eighth berth with a vertical wall is being built, which will enable ships to dock even during periods of low water levels, including vessels longer than 100 meters. At the same time, work on the winter harbor is practically completed, while the construction of the administrative building is underway.

The upgrading of the industrial rail track and its connection with the public railroad infrastructure are also planned, which will better integrate the port into the national transport system.

One of the most important segments of the project is the construction of a green terminal, intended to improve environmental protection and the Danube. According to the minister, currently only one such terminal exists in Germany.

During her visit to Negotin, Sofronijevic also reminded that a building permit had been issued in mid-July for the construction of a bypass around this city. As she stated, the new road route should contribute to the reduction of freight traffic through the center of Negotin, greater safety and better air quality for citizens.

The minister also visited the location of the sunken German fleet in the Danube near Prahovo. So far, seven ships have been pulled from the river, while the works have been temporarily suspended due to low water levels. They are expected to continue in mid-September, and the plan is to remove 21 ships covered by the contract by the end of 2028, which will further improve navigation safety on this part of the Danube.
