After the meeting on August 6, it will be known when passenger traffic on the Belgrade-Budapest railroad starts

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Djuro Macut, stated today, during a tour of the works on the rehabilitation of the rail station building in Subotica, that investing in modern rail infrastructure was one of the priorities of the Government of Serbia, because it contributed to greater safety, faster and more efficient rail traffic, better connection of citizens and the economy, as well as balanced regional development.

– With these investments, we will achieve better connectivity within Serbia and send a significant signal that we will also improve a lot in international traffic – Macut stated, after touring the works on the rehabilitation of the station building with the Mayor of Subotica, Stevan Bakic, and discussing the dynamics of the project implementation and the remaining activities necessary for the completion of the modernization of the station.

The Prime Minister previously had a meeting with the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijevic and the Acting Director of Srbijavoz, Ljubisa Pejicic, during a presentation ride on the new “Soko” train from Belgrade to Subotica, his cabinet announced.

According to him, in the past ten years, several billion euros have been invested in rail infrastructure and rolling stock in Serbia.

He emphasized that investments would continue in order to ensure better conditions for passenger and freight traffic, and the Srbijavoz management announced nine new compositions that would be intended for the specialized World Exhibition Expo 2027.

The Prime Minister added that Serbia had big plans in the transport sector, for all transport routes that existed in Serbia, not only for the southern direction towards Nis, North Macedonia and Greece, but also returning to the west, given that the country, as he pointed out, has traditionally and previously been significantly connected to Europe through the route from Athens, via Belgrade, Trieste, Milan and further into Europe.

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic stated that freight traffic had been launched on the Belgrade-Budapest railroad in February and added that she would meet with the Hungarian Minister of Transport on August 6, when she would receive more detailed information about when the passenger traffic would open as well.

Acting Director of Srbijavoz Ljubisa Pejicic said that Serbia was now the only country in the region that had an operational railroad for speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour and that Srbijavoz had one of the youngest rolling stocks in this part of Europe.
