Five days in Belgrade dedicated to the future of the world economy

From trade and inflation to artificial intelligence and geopolitical changes - topics shaping the global economy will be the focus of discussions in Belgrade.

What will the world economy look like in the next decade? Will artificial intelligence change the labor market? How do geopolitical tensions affect trade, investment and economic growth? These and many other questions will be discussed at the 21st World Congress of Economists of the International Economic Association (IEA), which will be held in Belgrade from June 22 to 26.

The theme of this year’s Congress, “Conflicting Visions of the World: Globalism versus Nationalism, Multilateralism versus Bilateralism and Democracy versus Autocracy”, opens the space for discussion on the key challenges of the modern world. The focus will be on global economic growth, trade relations, inflation, sustainable development, energy transition, productivity, the labor market and the impact of new technologies on the economy and society.

– The holding of the 21st World Congress of Economists in Belgrade comes at a time when the global economy is facing simultaneous pressures – from geopolitical divisions and changes in international trade, to inflation, technological transformation and the challenges of sustainable growth. That is why this congress is not just an academic gathering, but an important space for dialogue on how economies can respond to the profound changes that are already shaping business, the labor market and the daily lives of citizens. For Serbia and the region, this is an exceptional opportunity to be part of the global debate, but also to show that they can be a relevant meeting place for knowledge, experience and new economic ideas – said Aleksandar Vlahovic, President of the Association of Economists of Serbia.

The congress will be held for the first time in the region of Southeast Europe, while returning to the European continent after almost two decades. Over the course of five days, Belgrade will be the center of meetings of leading world economists and a global debate on economic and development trends of the future.

More than 1,000 participants are expected - economists, professors, researchers, representatives of international institutions, central banks and the business community from all over the world. The program includes more than 200 panels and 10 plenary sessions dedicated to key global challenges and trends.
