The document was signed by EPS CEO Dusan Zivkovic and Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, during the Energy Week in Baku.
– The signing of this document represents an important step in the implementation of the project that will further strengthen Serbia’s energy security and contribute to the diversification of energy sources and the green transition. The goal is to have a new baseload energy production capacity of up to 500 MW installed on the grid by 2030 – said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.
She emphasized that the cooperation with SOCAR confirmed the strong partnership between Serbia and Azerbaijan in the field of energy and opened up space for new joint projects of mutual importance.
– With this project, EPS continues the transformation of its production portfolio and strengthens its capacities for stable and reliable supply of citizens and businesses with electricity. The partnership with SOCAR allows us to combine experience and resources in order to implement a modern energy facility that will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Serbian electricity system – said Dusan Zivkovic after the signing ceremony.
The gas turbine power plant in Nis is, according to the EPS statement, a strategic energy project within the framework of cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, for which the countries signed an agreement in February this year in the presence of the presidents of the two countries.
