The largest investments, around EUR 6.5 billion, relate to new electricity generation capacities.
Around EUR 2.4 billion is planned for the transmission and distribution system, and around EUR 1.2 billion for gas interconnections, internal main and regional gas pipelines and oil pipelines, Popadic said at the opening of the conference “Energy Resilience of Companies: From Market Risks to Concrete Solutions”, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia.
He emphasized that, in the next two years, the priorities were the start of the construction of the Bistrica Reversible Hydropower Plant, a gas power plant near Nis, gas interconnections to North Macedonia and Romania, the completion of the expansion of the Banatski Dvor storage facility, as well as the completion of the Trans-Balkan Corridor, AmCham Serbia announced.
He said that Serbia had paid special attention to launching a nuclear energy program, which should ensure a safe and stable supply in the context of a gradual exit from fossil fuels in the decades ahead.
– In addition to renewable energy, we also need clean baseload energy for development. At a time when nuclear energy in Europe and the world is going through a kind of renaissance, we do not want Serbia to remain just an observer, but an active participant – he concluded.
