Djedovic Handanovic: State interested in purchasing Plandiste wind farm

The state is interested in purchasing the critical energy infrastructure owned by NIS in Serbia, said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handovic, who spoke with the CEO of Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS), Kirill Tyurdenev.

– We discussed the potential purchase of the Plandiste wind farm, which is 50% owned by NIS, and in which the state is interested – said Djedovic Handanovic, who also discussed with Tyurdenev the procurement, processing, sale and reserves of crude oil and oil products.

NIS, as the minister pointed out, is a key company for the security of supply of oil products, especially at this time of disruption in the global oil market.

The Minister stated that NIS, as the largest market participant, influenced wholesale prices and that it was important that there was compliance and that the company continued to support the maintenance of energy stability and security in the market. She pointed out that NIS used 20% of domestic oil and had the conditions to operate optimally, and added that there was a good dialogue along with NIS’s readiness to respond to the state’s demands.

The key strategic economic and political priority, as reported by the Government of Serbia, remains the state’s energy security, said the Minister, expressing her expectation that NIS’s responsible behavior and partnership would continue, especially in the moment of crisis.

According to her, in May, the refinery’s planned oil processing capacity will be 326,000 tons, close to the maximum, and the contracted quantities of crude oil arriving this month are around 240,000 tons.

The Minister noted that NIS, as the largest supplier, should ensure the supply of pumps, including in small towns, which bought fuel from them, and that the reserves of petroleum products be raised to the maximum level, so that Serbia was prepared for any unwanted scenario.

She reminded that the state had made extraordinary efforts, ceded 65,000 tons of diesel from reserves and reduced excise duties by 25 percent to prevent fuel shortages and maintain price stability, which had significantly reduced its revenues.
