River pile driving for new Sava bridge to begin – Limited navigation on Sava

On the Sava in Belgrade, in the area of the future Sava arch bridge, a new phase of works is officially beginning, which involves driving piles for pillars S3 and S4 in the riverbed. This phase will last six months, the Secretariat for Defense, Emergency Situations and Coordination announced.

– The works will be carried out in the Sava riverbed, in accordance with the previously established dynamics and coordinated activities of investors, contractors and competent city and republican services, with a special emphasis on taking all necessary protection measures. Due to safety reasons, both for contractors and for traffic participants on the international waterway, it has been assessed that during the works it is necessary to reduce navigation in the direction from Usce upstream on the Sava River, as well as from the direction of Ostruznica downstream towards Usce – this secretariat specified.

As they add, navigation will be reduced in such a way that during the works, in the construction zone, navigation on this part of the international waterway will be disabled from March 9 to September 9, every day from 7 AM to 4 PM, all in accordance with previously obtained approvals from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and the Belgrade Port Authority.

As additional security measures, and in order to ensure that no vessel (barge, tugboat, boat, scooter, etc.) is near the site of the pile-driving works in the planned time interval, additional mobile patrols will be engaged both on water and on land, who will inform the vessel crew and prevent their passage.

The new Sava bridge will have six lanes, four for cars plus two for trams, and according to the latest announcements, it will be operational in the first quarter of 2027.
