The high-speed test train, which consisted of a locomotive, a measurement car and a control car (which was needed due to the fast curves), operated between Budapest (Soroksar) and Kelebija on weekdays between 9 AM and 5 PM, and experts working on the train carried out measurements in the speed range of 60-160 kilometers.
The test run confirmed that it was possible to travel at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour between Soroksar and Kelebija, according to the timetable, and that the track and overhead line system were suitable for that speed.
Two new tracks and new overhead line equipment have been built on this route, and all railroad stations and pedestrian crossings have been modernized, reports Magyar Szo.
The journey from Budapest to Kiskunhalas will be shortened by 83 minutes, and to Kelebija by 104 minutes.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that freight traffic on the renovated Budapest-Belgrade railroad would begin on February 27, and that passenger traffic was scheduled to begin on March 14.
