The decisions of the European Commission working group, scheduled for February 25, could be crucial for the further steps of transporters from the region, who have been warning for months that the rules on stay in the Schengen zone directly threaten their work. Representatives of the transport sector say that, despite their readiness for new protests and blockades, they will wait for an institutional solution, with the hope that concrete measures will be initiated at the European Commission level that would enable the introduction of a special status for professional truck drivers from the Western Balkan countries.

The president of the business association “International Transport,” Nedjo Mandic, says that transporters are waiting for the decisions of the European Commission working group, after which they will decide on further steps.

He stated that transporters from Serbia were in contact with their colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who were also dissatisfied, and that the organization of border crossing blockades was not a problem, but that no one should be harmed if there was a possibility of finding a solution institutionally.
