Freight traffic on the Budapest-Belgrade railway will be established on February 27, RTV Panon reports.

As indicated, Hungarian Minister of Construction and Transport Janos Lazar pointed out that most of the freight capacity had already been sold.

He emphasized that they wanted to open the aforementioned section to passenger traffic between February 27 and March 15.

Hungary guarantees three pairs of departures, and Belgrade the same number. Trains will depart from Budapest every two hours.

The Hungarian side will strive to ensure that passport control does not last longer than 30 minutes, it is stated.

Let us remind that, as eKapija wrote in the past few days, Hungarian media reported in the first days of January that the works in Hungary had been slowed down by challenges such as the installation and integration of modern security equipment, which is necessary for high-speed trains. In addition, as a member of the EU, the country had to comply with stricter regulations for public procurement and other procedures, which turned out to be more time-consuming than the regulations that apply on the Serbian side, but the opening of the railway to traffic is certainly expected in February.
