Technical handover of Hungarian section of Belgrade-Budapest railroad to take place in autumn

The technical handover of the Hungarian section of the Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railroad could take place this autumn, and passenger traffic could start during the winter, Janos Lazar, Minister of Construction and Transport of Hungary, told RTV Pannon.

He said that the previous year’s tragedy in Novi Sad in November could not put the size and importance of that project aside.

– This investment was much needed by both Serbia and Hungary, and everyone will benefit from it – Janos Lazar emphasized.

Serbian authorities previously stated that the section of the high-speed railway between Novi Sad and the state border could be put into operation in the early autumn.

– In Hungary, the technical handover of this investment will take place in November, and from December, January it will be available to citizens. Hungarian State Railways plans to have three pairs of trains a day between Budapest and Belgrade - three in one direction, three in the other. We will provide quality service, with high speed and fast connection of the two capitals. The railroad is of enormous importance for the economy, because a large part of the goods entering Europe will be transported to Western Europe via this railway. It is a symbol and sign of our goal that Serbia, with the help and unreserved support of Hungary, becomes a member of the European Union, that Serbs, the Serbian economy and Serbian trade enter Europe through us.
