As announced, the implementation of the project is entering the final phase of preparation, and the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement between Serbia and France is expected at the spring session of the National Assembly. This would fulfill all formal conditions for the full implementation of the contract worth EUR 50 million.
Jovanovic reminded that the commercial preliminary contract for the procurement of the new supercomputer had been signed in April 2025, while the concrete results of the project were expected during 2026.
– This system will enable Serbia to have the largest supercomputer cluster in the region by the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027, which will be intended for the development of solutions based on artificial intelligence and its application in various sectors – said Jovanovic.
According to him, EUR 36 million will be invested in the supercomputer itself, along with the accompanying software and Mistral models of generative artificial intelligence, while an additional EUR 14 million is intended for the development of AI projects and services in the areas of healthcare, e-government, energy and transport.
The new supercomputer will be based on 640 nVidia GraceHopper superchips, distributed in 160 computer nodes, with a data storage space of 2.5 petabytes. A special space with advanced water cooling systems has already been designed in the State Data Center in Kragujevac, in which the existing and new supercomputers will be connected into a single whole.
The French Ambassador Florence Ferrari assessed that artificial intelligence was one of the key areas of cooperation between France and Serbia, emphasizing that the new supercomputer would contribute not only to the development of Serbia, but also to strengthening the overall innovation capacities of the European Union.
Bull SAS announced that the company would be responsible for delivering the supercomputer and developing a joint center for artificial intelligence, which would monitor its implementation in practice.
