Unified data from multiple sources
The map integrates data from multiple relevant sources, including data from the Digital Serbia Initiative on domestic AI startups, data on AI projects supported by the Science Fund and the Innovation Fund, as well as data on AI and innovation ecosystem actors and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the office announced.
All of this data is additionally classified and marked by a number of parameters, from the typology of organizations and projects, to technologies, industries and geographical areas, and interconnected. This allows users to easily independently search, filter and analyze the domestic AI ecosystem from different angles - or use one of 20 predefined views of the domestic AI ecosystem.
The strategic importance of AI for the development of Serbia
Speaking about the importance of creating the Map of the AI Ecosystem of Serbia, the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic, emphasized that it was another step in the continuous development of artificial intelligence in Serbia.
– The Government of the Republic of Serbia has clearly demonstrated its commitment to the development and application of artificial intelligence by adopting the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence for the Period 2025–2030 and the Ethical Guidelines for its Reliable Development and Use. Mapping the AI ecosystem further strengthens this foundation, as it enables better coordination of all stakeholders, from state institutions and scientific organizations to startups and the private sector, and thus lays the foundation for accelerated technological and social progress – Jovanovic emphasized.
Call for community input
Although comprehensive, the map is a first pilot version, which will be continuously updated and improved. The domestic AI ecosystem is rapidly developing, so the authors emphasize the importance of community feedback.
– Although the map was originally created for the internal planning needs of UNDP and the Office for IT and eGovernment in the field of AI implementation in the public sector, we believed that it could have broader value. That is why we decided to publish it not only as an interactive visualization, but also to make the complete dataset behind it freely available – said Slobodan Markovic, Digital Technology Advisor at UNDP.
He invited domestic researchers, companies and organizations to use the map, test its capabilities and send suggestions so that it can be further developed into a common community resource and help in planning new AI initiatives.
