Companies selected for development of plan for sector C of Belgrade bypass route from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo

The PE Roads of Serbia has awarded Saobracajni institut CIP d.o.o. Beograd and Institut za arhitekturu i urbanizam Srbije Beograd the contract for the development of the Spatial Plan for the Special-Purpose Area of section C of the Belgrade bypass route from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo. The contract, worth almost 40 million dinars (excluding VAT), was awarded on November 1.

The bypass section is part of the international highway route 4 (SEETO) and belongs to the IA-class state road (motorway A9), Bubanj Potok-Pancevo-state border with Romania. The planning document will include road traffic routes with a length of about 31 km and rail traffic routes with a length of about 29 km.

The route passes through parts of the municipalities of Vozdovac, Grocka, Rakovica and Palilula, as well as the city of Pancevo, including the cadastral municipalities of Beli Potok, Zuce, Lestane, Kaludjerica, Bolec, Ritopek, Vinca, Resnik, Krnjaca, Jabuka, Pancevo, Vojlovica, Starcevo and Ivanovo.

On the Belgrade side, the bypass route is about 8 km long, and on the Pancevo side about 22 km. The length of the bridge over the Danube with access structures is about 1,320 meters. The initial part of the route passes through mountainous terrain, so two tunnels - Bubanj Potok and Lestane - as well as four large intersections are planned. The bypass route is designed as a toll-free road.

In addition to the highway, a bypass rail line is also planned that will connect the facilities of the Belgrade Rail Hub and Central Serbia with the Pancevo-Vrsac and Pancevo-Zrenjanin rail lines, allowing freight traffic and the transport of hazardous materials to be redirected from the central zones of Belgrade and Pancevo.

Let us remind that, in August, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued a decision approving the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the project to build the first section of the E-70 highway, the bypass route around Belgrade and Pancevo - sector C and the new bypass route Beli Potok-Vinca-Pancevo with a road-rail bridge over the Danube near Vinca.

By the way, the part of the bypass route around Belgrade from Strazevica to Bubanj Potok was opened to traffic at the end of June 2023.

The then Minister of Transport, Goran Vesic, stated that a contract had been signed with the Institute of Transportation CIP for the design of the extension of the bypass route from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo, 31 kilometers long. Vesic also stated that, once Sector C was completed, he would order the design of Sector D, which would connect Pancevo to the new bridge at Batajnica, thus giving Pancevo another bypass route to the highway toward Novi Sad.
