Spatial Plan for Sector C of Belgrade-Pancevo Bypass Route begins (MAP)

The Government of Serbia has decided to develop a Spatial Plan for a Special Purpose Area for the construction of Sector C of the E-70 motorway, which includes part of the Belgrade-Pancevo bypass route, as well as a new Beli Potok-Vinca-Pancevo rail bypass route, including the construction of a road-rail bridge over the Danube near Vinca.

The planned transport infrastructure will be part of an integrated road-rail corridor and includes three key facilities: the Bubanj Potok-Vinca-Pancevo motorway bypass, the Beli Potok-Vinca-Pancevo rail bypass route, and a bridge over the Danube that will serve both road and rail traffic. This lays the foundation for significantly improving connectivity between the southern and eastern parts of Belgrade and Banat.

The Spatial Plan will cover parts of the territory of the city of Belgrade - the municipalities of Grocka, Vracar, Rakovica and Palilula, as well as the city of Pancevo, encompassing a total of 17 cadastral municipalities.

The deadline for drafting the Spatial Plan is 12 months, and the funds for drafting the document are provided by the Public Enterprise “Roads of Serbia”. The draft will be put up for public inspection for 15 days in local governments within the scope of the plan.

The plan will contain elements of detailed regulation that will enable its immediate implementation in accordance with the law. A Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment and a Study on the Protection of Immovable Cultural Property will also be prepared.

The decision was published in the Official Gazette, and will enter into force on the eighth day from the date of publication.

Let us remind that the part of the Belgrade bypass route from Strazevica to Bubanj Potok was opened to traffic at the end of June 2023.

The then Minister of Transport, Goran Vesic, stated that a contract had been signed with the Institute of Transportation CIP for the design of the extension of the bypass route from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo, 31 kilometers long. Vesic also stated that, once Sector C was completed, he would order the design of Sector D, which would connect Pancevo to the new bridge at Batajnica, thus giving Pancevo another bypass to the highway towards Novi Sad.
