NBS: Allegations that sanctions will be imposed on central bank constitute unfounded spreading of panic

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) has announced in response to reports by the media that sanctions against the NBS are “almost certain” because of payments made with the Dina card at NIS gas stations that such allegations constitute unfounded spread of panic.

– Dina card is a payment instrument in domestic payment operations in the same way as the dinar, i.e. cash and instant payments – the NBS says.

It is pointed out that the matter concerning NIS is being handled at the highest government level, and the public will be timely informed once concrete solutions are reached.

The Nova.rs portal has reported that US authorities have threatened the NBS with secondary sanctions for payments with the Dina card at NIS gas stations, which is under US sanctions due to its majority Russian ownership.

According to a Nova.rs source, if this practice continues, sanctions will certainly be imposed.
