Rate for calculating deposit insurance premium reduced – Starting next year in accordance with bank risk

By decision of the Management Board of the Deposit Insurance Agency (AOD), the rate for calculating the regular quarterly deposit insurance premium is being reduced from the current 0.15% to 0.10% of insured deposit amounts in banks, and will be applied in 2026, AOD announced.

– Starting next year, the amount of the premium will also depend on the level of risk in each bank’s operations. This means that those banks that have higher risk factors will pay higher premium amounts. The agency will receive the risk factors in bank operations from the National Bank of Serbia, the institution responsible for supervising bank operations – AOD explains.

It is expected that the reduction in the rate for calculating premiums will bring significant financial relief to banks, but also that the introduction of calculating premiums based on risk in bank operations will simultaneously strengthen market discipline and encourage risk reduction in banking operations. Deposit insurance premiums are paid exclusively by banks, not by the users of their services.

According to the latest available data, total insured deposits of individuals, entrepreneurs, and micro, small and medium-sized legal entities in domestic banks amounted to EUR 33.7 billion and increased by 8.2% annually.

According to available indicators, citizens’ trust in banks is growing. For more than 15 years, insured deposits in banks have been growing at an average rate of about 10% per year. The most numerous are deposits of individuals, with about 15.7 million items.

The deposit insurance system fully covers 99 percent of citizens, since the total amount they keep in one bank does not exceed the insured amount of EUR 50,000.
