The Kamatica portal reports that at around 11 am at the NIS gas station in Banjica it was not possible to pay for fuel with Visa, Mastercard and American Express payment cards, but only with cash, Dina card, M-banking and Drive go applications. They add that they personally saw this at the gas station - many citizens at the cash register were shocked when they could not pay the bill after filling the tank.
Kurir, on the other hand, reports that payment cards are accepted and that everything is working flawlessly.
At the gas station near Usce in Belgrade, drivers were able to fill up on all types of fuel without any problems and there were no holdups, the portal states.
– As we learned from the drivers we encountered when entering the gas station, none of them are afraid that there will be no fuel and that they will have to stock up. Older drivers, who still have fresh memories of the nineties when fuel was stored and sold in cans and bottles, express mild concern that something like this will happen again, but none of them wanted to speak on the subject by name – Kurir reports.
NIS also told Kurir that all payment methods were working at NIS Petrol gas stations
– For now, all cards are processed normally, including Mastercard, Visa and American Express, and there are no problems with payments at our gas stations, but we do not know what will happen next – it was confirmed to Kurir Business at 11:33 am by Naftna industrija Srbije.
NIS announced earlier today that, due to the current business operations under sanctions, it might not be possible to pay with Mastercard, Visa and American Express payment cards at their gas stations.
The company instructs customers to make payments at all NIS Petrol and Gazprom gas stations in one of the following ways:
- In cash;
- With Dina payment cards of all banks;
- With the m-banking application of all banks (via the IPS Show option);
- With the Drive.Go application (only with the IPS payment method).
– When paying, you can also freely use all the benefits of the “Sa nama na putu” loyalty program, as well as the benefits of NIS corporate cards. If you do not yet have the Sa nama na putu application, you can download it if you are an Android device user from our website via this link. If you are a user of the Drive.Go application, we advise you to set IPS as the default payment method – the company’s statement reads.
NIS also says that the supply of NIS Petrol and Gazprom gas stations is regular, that their fuel is “as before, of unchanged, top quality,” and they thank customers for their trust and understanding.
The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) also made a statement regarding this topic. It said that, for cashless payments at NIS’s gas stations, DinaCard, IPS Scan and IPS Show remained available to citizens and businesses.
– Regarding the sanctions applied to NIS Petrol and the possibility that international card systems might block payments at NIS Petrol points-of-sale if using payment cards issued within those systems, the NBS informs the public that the payment instruments of the NBS remain available to citizens and businesses for cashless payments. Alongside the Dina payment card, there is also the option to pay with the instant payment instruments IPS Scan and IPS Show, located on the home screens of m-banking applications of banks in Serbia – the press release says.
The Central Bank reminds that, in addition to paying for fuel and other goods at NIS Petrol filling stations, these points-of-sale also accept Dina payment cards for payment in instalments, for withdrawing cash when making a purchase, and even for paying for certain utility services.
As these are payment instruments that also entail significantly lower costs for all participants in the payment chain, NIS Petrol will provide additional benefits for payers, and will duly inform the public about them.
