Railroad from Zemun Polje to EXPO complex – Works at several points on both route and overpasses

The double-track railway line from Zemun Polje via Nikola Tesla Airport to the future EXPO complex, according to the announcement of the authorities in the state, should be completed by the end of next year. This rail line, which will have four stops from Zemun Polje to the EXPO complex (Singidunum, Airport, Surcin and the National Stadium rail station), will be 18.3 kilometers long, and trains on it will travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Works have been carried out at several points on the route of the future rail line from both the Zemun Polje and the National Stadium directions for some time now. Specifically, in the area of the Zemun Polje station, work on the overpasses, or viaduct, which is the future connection of this station with the rest of the future rail route, has progressed considerably, and earthworks have also progressed regarding the rail route before and after these overpasses. To connect the new railroad to the existing one at the Zemun Polje station, let us remind, the outer tracks were used, so trains coming from the direction of the airport will merge into track 1, while trains heading towards the airport will be separated from the existing right guard track.

There’s a similar situation in the opposite direction (National Stadium), where work is also being carried out at several points - the future rail route through the Srem plain, but also on the future overpasses.

As a reminder, a few months ago, the Government of Serbia also adopted a decision establishing the public interest in the expropriation of land and buildings in the territory of Belgrade, for the purpose of building a rail line that would connect Zemun Polje and the future National Stadium in Surcin. This decision referred to the first stage of construction, on the section from Zemun Polje to the location of the National Stadium, in accordance with the General Regulation Plan for Rail Systems in Belgrade.

In addition to the rail line, the construction of stations, overpasses, culverts and infrastructure installations - gas pipelines, electricity and heating networks, water supply, as well as transmission lines - is also planned. One of the locations where work has also been underway for a long time is the location of the future Surcin rail station.

This line, as has been announced several times, will be fully electrified with the most modern equipment and will be exclusively for passenger traffic. There will be six very demanding engineering structures on the section of the line.

When it comes to the railroad and highway crossing, there will be a bridge construction between the airport interchange and the Belgrade (Dobanovci) interchange.

In the airport zone, let us remind, the railroad stop will be about 500 meters away from the entrance to Terminal 1.

As for the National Stadium station, it will be the only real station on the route, with four tracks.

The idea is that in the future the railway will continue from there to Obrenovac.

The main contractor is the Chinese company Power China.
