Construction of theme parks, dolphinariums and Aquatic Center within EXPO complex not to begin before 2028 – Proposal for investment program Serbia 2028-2035 to be published soon

Construction of theme parks, dolphinariums and Aquatic Center will not begin before the end of EXPO 2027, because, as announced by the Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali, work on these and some other facilities within the EXPO complex in Surcin will begin after 2028.

Let us remind that the contract for the preparation of urban and technical documentation for the purposes of obtaining location requirements for the construction of the Aquatic Center within the EXPO complex in Surcin was awarded last summer to the Hungarian company Market Epito Zrt. The Hungarians were the only bidders in the tender announced in mid-June by the company Akvatik centar doo.

The Serbian Government established Privredno drustvo SPV Akvatik centar d.o.o. Belgrade, for the purpose of building a sports complex for water sports. The future sports center will be located within the National Stadium and EXPO Center complex in Surcin. The Aquatic Center is a complex that will be intended for training and international competitions in water sports, and the facility is planned to cover an area of 10 hectares. The sports center will be built according to FINA standards for world water sports, and the seating capacity will be 4,000 seats. However, it is now clear that the focus on these facilities will be placed only after EXPO 2027.

In addition to the tentative deadline for the start of work on the Aquatic Center and theme parks, Mali also announced that Jurija Gagarina Street would be extended, which, together with Vojvodjanska Street, which has three traffic lanes in both directions, will, as he said, provide the necessary traffic capacity for the new residential complex.

– The construction site should be viewed in a broader context, i.e. as a place that contributes to the country’s economy and the growth of its construction sector – Mali pointed out and announced that a proposal for the investment program Serbia 2028-2035 would soon be released.

Mali announced this during a tour of the EXPO Village construction site where a residential complex is being built as part of preparations for the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027. He emphasized that the works were being carried out according to the planned dynamics and that the apartments would be built on time, i.e. by mid-2026.

He stated that the residential complex in Surcin would contain 1,500 apartments - from one-bedroom to four-bedroom apartments, from 37 to 102 square meters, and added that official participants in the EXPO exhibition would start moving into these apartments in the second half of next year, in order to prepare their pavilions.

– This will be an excellent location to live, with kindergartens, schools and other facilities, theme parks, good railway connections with the center of Belgrade, Obrenovac, the airport, the Prokop railway station – he said and added that a large hotel with approximately 400 rooms was also being built near the EXPO village.

When it comes to the construction of the National Stadium, Mali pointed out that all preparatory work had been completed, and that the plan was to complete the construction of the stadium by the start of the specialized exhibition.
