Construction of Serbian nuclear power plant: EDF has not made any decision on withdrawing from any new project

EDF has not made any decision about withdrawing from any new nuclear process in which it is engaged, the French energy company told the Nuklearna perspektiva portal.

In light of the recent information reported by Reuters about a partial withdrawing of EDF from certain foreign projects and the announced reduction of the number of employees, the portal sent a question to the company asking whether that would have an impact on the cooperation of EDF and Serbia, considering the EDF is a long-term partner of Serbia in the announced project of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Serbia.

The French company says that the chairman and CEO of EDF once again confirmed on July 24, 2025 (on the occasion of the publishing of the semi-annual results of EDF Group) that the company’s ambitions and goals were to position itself in new projects of nuclear reactors outside of France with the support of the French government, as shown by its recent decision to support the Sizewell C twin-EPR in Great Britain.

They add that EDF will remain present at an international level with its portfolio of reactor technology, because that is the key leverage for securing the sustainability of its supply chain, including Arabelle Solutions, Framatome and its industrial partners. The Group therefore continues its international activities in nuclear energy, of course, taking care of the profitability of its obligations.

The company says that “EDF Group has for years now been promoting both its portfolio of reactor technology (EPR, EPR1200, Nuward) and advanced technological blocks from its competitive subsidiaries for the production of equipment” and that “such a parallel approach enables the company to use its unique technology platforms where reactor projects have already been awarded to the competition.”
