Serbia develops vaccines against cancer! - Together with the Italians, Serbia is creating a biotechnology platform "Epic" for the preparation of innovative anticancer vaccines

"Epic" news that went completely unnoticed in Serbia: Serbia and Italy are working together on the development of a biotechnology platform for the preparation of innovative vaccines against cancer! The project named "EPIC", belonging to the thematic area of ​​"bio and RNA technology", will be developed by the Cellular Immunology Lab in Trieste, which works as part of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), and the Institute for the Application of Nuclear Energy at the University of Belgrade (INEP), ICGEB announced at the end of March.

The project led by Dr. Federica Benvenuti is financed by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research with EUR 210,000.

- The goal is the development of a new biotechnological platform for the preparation of anticancer vaccines based on dendritic cells, with the ultimate goal of creating new generation vaccines that use pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) - according to ICGEB.

As many as 83 proposals were received for the aforementioned competition, which confirms the great interest of the scientific community in this initiative. - The success of the Italy-Serbia bidding, which showed the enthusiastic participation of the scientific communities, not only confirms the strength of our cooperation, but also further strengthens the path of joint scientific cooperation that we have started, said the Italian Minister of Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. - Research, innovation and development represent challenges that we must face together, because only by pooling our excellence can we ensure that the results of progress are truly accessible and useful to everyone - ICGEB reported.
