Expansion of Banatski Dvor gas storage facility to be completed by end-2026

Works on expanding the capacity of the Banatski Dvor underground gas storage facility from 450 to 750 million cubic meters will be completed by the end of next year, the Ministry of Mining and Energy announced.

– This will represent a significant contribution to energy security and system stability. Given the seasonal fluctuations in consumption, this expansion enables the storage of larger quantities of surplus gas during the summer months, which will ensure greater coverage of consumption during the winter, as well as an increase in daily gas production capacities – said State Secretary at the ministry Sonja Vlahovic.

She and Assistant Minister Sasa Cokovic took a tour of the expansion works on the Banatski Dvor gas storage facility, which began on April 2 this year. So far, the installation of equipment on the first two boreholes, which will soon be ready to start gas injection, has been completed, and works have begun on the third borehole, out of a total of 12 planned for the project.

Kokovic said that the country’s ability to have larger quantities of gas in reserve not only enabled a faster response in crisis situations, but also provided additional security for the domestic market and consumers during the winter months.

The expansion of the underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor is being financed by its shareholders - Srbijagas and the Russian company Gazprom International Projects.
