A meeting was held at the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy with representatives of a consortium led by the "Jaroslav Cerni" Water Institute. This consortium will prepare a portion of the project-technical documentation for the Djerdap 3 Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plant (PSHPP).

Concurrently, a process is underway to develop the remainder of the project-technical documentation for PSHPP Djerdap 3, within the framework of an intergovernmental agreement on energy between Serbia and the United States. Out of the six companies that responded to the public call, the consortium of Bechtel and Enka has met the prescribed qualification criteria to advance to the next stage of the process, the commencement of negotiations, the Ministry announced.

Milan Aleksic, Advisor for Capital Investments at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, stated that the consortium led by the "Jaroslav Cerni" Water Institute was tasked with preparing a Preliminary Feasibility Study, including a General Project design, as well as a Spatial Plan for the Special Purpose Area, accompanied by a Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment, according to the Ministry.

– This is the first time that this type of documentation is being prepared for the PSHPP Djerdap 3 project. The goal, in collaboration with experts from domestic institutes, is to lay a solid foundation for the next steps. This is one of the most significant and largest projects in the Serbian energy sector, given its complexity in terms of engineering, design, and construction, as well as its cross-border impacts and the need to align key parameters with neighboring countries – he stated.

Aleksic pointed out that, once constructed, PSHPP Djerdap 3 would be one of the largest energy facilities in Southeast Europe, with the potential to become Europe's largest "natural battery," essentially an energy storage facility.

During the meeting, the timeline for the preparation of technical documentation was established. It is also emphasized that the process will require efficient coordination, given the large number of domestic institutions that will be involved in the project.
