Six companies interested in building RHPP Djerdap 3

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic stated today that six companies had expressed interest in the construction of the reversible hydropower plant Djerdap 3 in a public call.

– In the hydro sector, the two most important projects under development are RHPP Bistrica and RHPP Djerdap 3, for which the call for companies to express interest has been completed and we have six companies that have expressed interest – Minister Djedovic Handanovic told Radio Beograd 1.

She stated that it remained to be seen which companies had met the criteria.

– Because, Djerdap 3 will certainly be the largest project that we will develop in the future. The previous feasibility study has been completed. So, we are developing projects with a responsible approach so that they will be even safer in the future. And it is precisely reversible hydropower plants, which can store electricity, that give you that security because you have a natural battery from which you draw additional amounts of electricity when you need it – the minister stated.

The public call for expressions of interest from companies to participate in the RHPP Djerdap 3 construction project ended on June 25.

The process is being led by a special Working Group of the Government of Serbia, based on an intergovernmental agreement between Serbia and the USA.

As previously announced, the investment will be worth more than EUR 2.63 billion.

When it comes to the RHPP Bistrica project, she said that construction would begin not long after.

– So, preparatory work this year, work on the main plant next year – added the minister.
