The Belgrade City Assembly has adopted a decision amending the existing regulation on the tourist tax, raising the amount of this local fee from the current 160 dinars to 240 dinars per day of stay.

The new decision will be published in the Official Gazette of the City of Belgrade and will enter into force on October 15, 2026.

Alignment with new government decree

The legal basis for adjusting the tourist tax amount stems from a new decree issued by the Government of the Republic of Serbia regarding the minimum and maximum tourist tax rates.

Under a ruling by the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, Belgrade has been designated as a first-category tourist destination.

The new government decree prescribes a tourist tax range for first-category tourist destinations of 190 dinars (minimum) to 240 dinars (maximum) per day.

With this new decision, the City of Belgrade has opted for the prescribed maximum amount.

As stated in the decision’s explanatory memorandum, the previous rate of 160 dinars had been in effect since 2020, when it reached the statutory maximum applicable at that time.

The lack of adjustments over the past six years negatively impacted city budget revenues. Consequently, adopting new rates became necessary to align with inflation and rising costs associated with tourism and municipal infrastructure.

Additional city budget revenue

The decision to amend the rates was determined by the Belgrade City Council and adopted by the Belgrade City Assembly, in accordance with the Law on Financing Local Self-Government and the Statute of the City of Belgrade.

It is estimated that the application of the increased daily fee of 240 dinars will generate additional revenue totaling 123,195,253 dinars for the city budget and the budgets of Belgrade’s municipalities in 2026.

These funds will be allocated toward the further development of tourism, the promotion of the capital, and infrastructure maintenance.

Under the Law on Tourism and local regulations, both domestic and foreign tourists are required to pay the tourist tax. However, exemptions apply to children under the age of 7, persons with disabilities (with an impairment level of at least 70%) and their companions, as well as individuals undergoing medical treatment or rehabilitation.

For children aged 7 to 15, the fee is set at 50% of the standard rate, and the tax is collected by the accommodation provider.
