Delay in procurement of 85 new trams for Belgrade – Tender worth 40 billion dinars temporarily suspended

The tender for the procurement of 85 new trams for GSP Beograd has been temporarily suspended following a request for the protection of rights filed by a Turkish bidder, the Centar - GSP Beograd trade union has learned.

According to the union’s president, Ivan Bankovic, this is a standard legal procedure that occurs when an interested bidder submits a request to the Republic Commission for the Protection of Rights in Public Procurement Procedures.

– This is a highly valuable contract, a procurement procedure estimated at over 40 billion dinars excluding VAT, so it is expected that there would be significant interest from multiple bidders. It is important to note that this tender has not been cancelled, but merely temporarily suspended – Bankovic said.

The tender process is expected to resume once the Republic Commission issues its decision, and the Centar union hopes this will happen as soon as possible.

As the union previously noted, this tender for new trams allows for the participation of various global and European vehicle manufacturers, favors no specific bidder, and represents the largest single tram procurement since the inception of tram services in Belgrade.
