According to the union, just two days after the suspension of the tender for the procurement of new trolleybuses, the tender for new trams has also fallen through. Only one company submitted a bid, Turkish company Bozankaya.
- This is further proof that, due to the alarming situation in Belgrade's public transport system and the city's enormous debts to GSP, as well as GSP's debts to suppliers, it is no longer possible to procure any new vehicles through the city - said Ivan Bankovic, president of the Centar GSP workers union.
As Bankovic explained, only one Turkish bidder submitted an offer in the tender for the procurement of new trams, offering a short tram at a price of as much as EUR 2.6 million including VAT, which he described as "an exorbitantly high price."
