Dumitru Potok is currently the “star” of the exploration and is being targeted by as many as 8 out of a total of 10 active drills. The latest drills in this area have yielded exceptionally high percentages of metals: one drill discovered a 19.5-meter layer with as much as 4.58% copper equivalent (which includes 3.30% pure copper and 1.65 g/t gold) at a depth of 494 meters. The second well confirmed a 17-meter intercept with 2.67% copper equivalent (1.51% copper and 1.50 g/t gold).
These high percentages confirm that Dumitru Potok is the primary deposit that will carry the economic feasibility of the future mine.
Rakita North: Confirmation that mineralization is expanding
That the gold-copper system does not end there was proven by spectacular results from the neighboring Rakita North location, just a kilometer or two away. At a depth of 623 meters, a continuous mineral intercept of as much as 76 meters was found.
This huge sample recorded an average content of 2.66% copper equivalent (containing 1.76% pure copper, 0.88 g/t gold and 7.30 g/t silver). This discovery proves that the mineralization zone has expanded by about 90 meters west and 100 meters southwest compared to previous estimates.
Drilling volume to increase dramatically
Due to these results, DPM Metals has changed its plans for the current year and gone on a maximum offensive. The original plan of 20,000 meters of drilling has been increased by an additional 12,000 to 15,000 meters, setting a new target of 32,000 to 35,000 meters in total. Currently, 10 drill rigs are active, and the plan is to have a total of 15 active drilling systems in the field by the end of the year.
The Coka Rakita project is located in the municipality of Zagubica and is considered one of the most promising mining ventures in the Balkans. DPM Metals plans to build a modern underground mine here, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2027.
To speed up the process and reduce costs, the Canadians are planning to implement an innovative solution - moving and dismantling the entire processing equipment from their successful Bulgarian mine Ada Tepe, which eKapija has already written about.
