New Belgrade rail station to be closed to passengers from September 9 until year-end “due to intensified works”

The Srbijavoz company has announced that, from September 9 until December 31, due to intensified works, the New Belgrade station will be closed to passengers, which in practice means that passengers will not be able to use one of the two main rail stations in the capital in the coming months.

As the statement adds, at the same time, the Tosin bunar stop will be opened to passengers from all categories of trains. This means that, in the future, in addition to regional trains, Regioexpress, Interregio and Intercity trains, or Soko trains - all those that have stopped at the New Belgrade station so far, will also stop at Tosin bunar.

That something like this would happen could have been expected, given that work has been underway at the New Belgrade station complex for a long time - on the station building, platforms, station structure... As a result, some tracks and platforms have been out of use for some time. By the way, these are not the first extensive works at this station, as some were carried out even before the Belgrade-Novi Sad high-speed railroad was put into service in 2022.

As for trains on this line, they have been regularly delayed for a long time, primarily due to the Belgrade section, where, in addition to the work at the New Belgrade station, the trains’ crossing over the New Rail Bridge is also affected, as is the work on the underpass between Umetnosti Boulevard and Crvene armije Boulevard. It often happens that the Subotica and Novi Sad trains (which currently depart from Petrovaradin) arrive at Tosin bunar exactly on time, or even earlier, but then from there to Prokop they have a total delay of seven or eight minutes due to all the reasons mentioned. The same situation is in the opposite direction, which is why the organized free bus ride to Novi Sad in Petrovaradin also loses its meaning, because due to regular delays of trains from Belgrade, many passengers do not arrive in time for these free departures.
