Green light for preparation of site for mole near Pancevo Bridge – Belgrade Subway issued building permit for works preceding TBM launch

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has issued a decision on a building permit for works necessary for preparation of site for the launch of the TBM, or the mole.

More precisely, this decision approved the execution of construction works belonging to phases I, I’ and I”. This concerns the construction of a working platform, the construction of diaphragm guides, the construction of reinforced concrete diaphragms, excavation with the installation of a support system for securing the excavation and the construction of a foundation slab for the TBM, for the purposes of launching the TBM, and with the aim of implementing the phased construction of phase II of line 1 of the Belgrade Subway.

The estimated value of the works is: 3.82 billion dinars excluding VAT.

As for the moles themselves that will dig the Belgrade Subway tunnels, in mid-August, the Belgrade Metro and Train Public Utility Company announced that these two TBMs had left China for Serbia. This involves a several-week transport to Europe, and then to Belgrade, where they will be prepared for the start of excavation of about 11 kilometers of underground tunnels of the first phase of the first subway line.

The transport of the “mole” machines will be carried out in two stages. In the first stage, one complete TBM is being shipped from China, together with part of the components of the second machines, while in the second stage its remaining parts will be shipped. The machines and their components, as indicated, will travel by sea from China to Europe, where their arrival is expected by October. After that, if the transport proceeds according to the planned dynamics and navigation conditions, their further transport along the Danube to Belgrade will follow.

After the delivery of all components to Serbia, preparations will follow for the assembly of the moles and their placement at the launch sites, from where the tunnel excavation will begin.

One mole will begin work from the Bele Vode station in Makis and will move in the direction of the Belgrade Fair station, while the other will begin excavation precisely from the launch shaft in Karaburma, near the Pancevo Bridge. The two machines will begin work from opposite sides of the underground route and advance towards each other.
