Kuzmin-Sremska Raca highway to open on October 15

Work on the Kuzmin-Sremska Raca highway is nearing completion, and 18 kilometers of this road will be opened to traffic on October 15, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced during a tour of this section.

– This is an important road for us. It connects Belgrade and Sarajevo, but it is also the road that connects Belgrade with Bijeljina. We are also financing the work to a large extent on the territory of Republika Srpska, from the border via Dvorovo to Bijeljina – said Vucic, adding that the highway should later be built to Sarajevo if there is interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As indicated during the tour of the construction site, the construction of the Kuzmin-Sremska Raca highway with a new bridge over the Sava River is in its final phase. The road itself is 89% complete, and the bridge near Sremska Raca is 99.5%.

Vucic specified that from Bijeljina the route should continue via Brcko, Modrica, Doboj and Prnjavor to Banja Luka.

He reminded that Republika Srpska had built part of the road from Banja Luka to Prnjavor and from Prnjavor to Doboj.

– This section from Doboj to Modrica is missing, and especially Modrica-Brcko, Brcko-Bijeljina. But it is very important that we at least connect with the second largest city in Republika Srpska, the fourth or fifth in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It would be important to build that road further south in the future, towards Tuzla and Sarajevo, but so far no interest has been shown from the Sarajevo side – said Vucic.

The start of the Kuzmin-Sremska Raca highway is planned near the existing grade-separated intersection of Kuzmin on the Belgrade-Zagreb highway and leads all the way to the existing border crossing at Sremska Raca. According to announcements from December last year, the Kuzmin-Raca highway was supposed to be opened to traffic by the middle of this year. Before that, during the summer of last year, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced that the Sremska Raca-Kuzmin highway section would be physically completed by the end of 2025. Incidentally, since officials officially marked the start of work on the future Kuzmin-Sremska Raca highway, the announcements about the end of work on this small section through the plain have been postponed several times.

The designed speed of movement on this highway is 130 km/h.
