Srbijavoz and Siemens sign contract on purchase of six multi-system electric locomotives – New rolling stock in Serbia in June or July next year

The companies Srbijavoz and Siemens Mobility Austria from Cerovac have signed a contract for the purchase of six new multi-system electric locomotives Vectron.

The contract stipulates that the locomotives will arrive in June and July next year, thus continuing the modernization project after the purchase of new trains for the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027, said the acting director of Srbijavoz, Ljubisa Pejicic, who signed the contract with the CEO of Siemens, Matthias Hermann Koch.

– Srbijavoz is currently using locomotives that are more than 40 years old. They are not reliable, nor are they of good quality. By purchasing these locomotives, already next year, when they arrive in June and July, we will drastically increase our services, which will be reflected in the number of passengers and some new destinations – Pejicic emphasized, as reported by TV Una.

As he said, these locomotives will be used on the line to Budapest, but he also hopes that after the establishment of rail traffic to Budapest, Srbijavoz will also establish lines to Vienna and other destinations in Europe.

Matthias Hermann Koch stated that the company had been operating in Serbia for many years and that the factory’s production capacities were located near Kragujevac. He pointed out that the company had previously supplied software solutions to customers in Serbia, as well as locomotives to the company Serbia Cargo.

– This project is of great importance to us. The locomotives will be manufactured in Munich, Allach, and will be delivered here. What is also important to note is that this is not just the procurement of locomotives, but we also provide full maintenance, which means that we will ensure availability and excellent performance throughout the entire life cycle of the locomotives for the customer in Serbia – said Koch.

Siemens Mobility Austria Director Andreas Palffy emphasized that signing the contract with Srbijavoz represented a significant step in improving cooperation with the rail sector in Serbia. He emphasized that the Vectron locomotive model was the best developed and most proven platform.

– So far, a little more than 3,000 Vectron locomotives have been produced from our factory and 2,000 of these locomotives are already in operation. We are glad that Serbia has joined this group, as well as that we are developing cooperation with Serbia. We hope that our production and the quantities that will be delivered will increase over time – emphasized Palffy.
