Srbijavoz tender for six new multi-system locomotives extended again

Srbijavoz’s tender for the purchase of six new multi-system locomotives, which was announced in early November, will not be completed even three months after its announcement. Originally, this public procurement was supposed to be completed after Christmas, but immediately before that, the tender was extended until February 5. It turns out that even that was not a long enough date for submitting bids, so it was recently extended again, this time until February 27.

The estimated value of this procurement is 4.69 billion dinars, or about EUR 40 million, and it involves the purchase of locomotives that will be intended for hauling passenger trains on electrified lines in Serbia, but also on international corridors through Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Greece. The procurement also includes maintenance services for a period of at least eight years, or up to 1.2 million kilometers, as well as training personnel to operate the new vehicles. The expected service life of the vehicles is at least 30 years.

Let us remind that, as eKapija recently wrote, the Srbijavoz fleet should be significantly modernized and rejuvenated by 2028, because in addition to new passenger trains, the plan is to renew locomotives and sleeping cars. The first four electric trains from China for speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour for the railway currently under construction from Zemun Polje to the National Stadium are scheduled to be delivered this year, and the remaining five should be delivered by the end of February next year, as announced by Ljubisa Pejicic, acting director of Srbijavoz, to the newspaper Pruga.

When it comes to locomotives, Pejicic stated that six new locomotives should be delivered and put into service during 2028. Of course, it is clear that everything depends on when this tender is finally be completed and when the contract is awarded to the most favorable bidder.

In addition, Srbijavoz plans to announce a public procurement for 12 sleeping cars this year, for the purchase of which a loan agreement and a financing guarantee agreement were signed with the EBRD on October 31 last year.
