The fleet of the railway company Srbijavoz should be significantly modernized and rejuvenated by 2028, because in addition to new passenger trains, the renewal of locomotives and sleeping cars is also planned.

One of the first "rejuvenations" should follow this year, during which the delivery of the first four electric trains from China for speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour is planned for the railway currently being built from Zemun Polje to the National Stadium. The remaining five should be delivered by the end of February next year, Ljubiša Pejicic, acting director of Srbijavoz, pointed out for the latest edition of the magazine Pruga.

The commercial contract for nine trains, as he reminded, was concluded in November 2024.

- The introduction of these trains into service is expected immediately after the completion of the necessary tests on the tracks, and no later than the start of the EXPO 2027 Specialized Exhibition - he said.

The trains will operate on the Belgrade railway network, which starts from the Classification Yard and passes through the stations Rakovica, Belgrade Center, New Belgrade, Zemun Polje, Nikola Tesla Airport and ends at the National Stadium. As Pejicic pointed out, these trains were developed on the "reliable, proven and safe platform of Chinese regional and suburban EMVs, as well as in accordance with the characteristics of the Belgrade city railway".

- These are three-part electric motor sets 63.2 m long, with a battery autonomy of 5 km and with 380 seats, of which 90 are for sitting and 290 for standing - said Pejicic.

In addition, the procurement of Srbijavoz is also underway, related to the purchase of six multi-system locomotives from a EUROFIMA loan worth EUR 40 million. As Pejicic said, six new locomotives should be delivered and put into service in 2028.

In addition, the news is that Srbijavoz plans to announce a public procurement for 12 sleeping cars this year. The loan agreement and guarantee agreement for financing this procurement were concluded with the EBRD on October 31 last year. The delivery of the new sleeping cars is also planned for 2028, i.e. by the end of that year.

When it comes to the reconstruction of Srbijavoz's regional depots, as Pejicic announced, projects for their modernization are in the final phase, and the announcement of the tender for the execution of works at the depots is scheduled for April and May this year.
