Djedovic Handanovic: Work on gas power plant project near Nis intensified

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic spoke with representatives of Elektromreza Srbije, Elektroprivreda Srbije, Srbijagas and the City of Nis about further steps in the implementation of the gas power plant construction project near this city.

Djedovic Handanovic pointed out that work on the project had been intensified in the previous period, that a steering committee, a project management team and five technical teams for each area of work had been formed, and that coordination of all project participants had been initiated, the government website reports.

She stated that the coordination of the Preliminary Feasibility Study with SOCAR was underway, and that it was expected to be finalized not long after, after coordination with the Azerbaijani side.

– The most important task at the moment is the finalization of the contract between the shareholders of EPS, “Srbijagas” and SOCAR, which will enable the establishment of a joint venture, define the commercial aspects of the project and the responsibilities of the companies carrying out the project – the minister emphasized.

The next steps in the implementation of the project, the development of detailed regulation plans, investors for all infrastructure facilities and the connection of the new power plant to the transmission network were discussed at the meeting.

According to her, the gas power plant near Nis is a project of strategic importance and the goal is to complete the new capacity, with a capacity of 500 MW, which will produce electricity and heat, by 2030.

This will also be the first joint project of EPS, Srbijagas and the Azerbaijani SOCAR, which will mean additional energy security for Serbia for citizens, and especially for the development of industry in southern Serbia, said Djedovic Handanovic.

The meeting was attended, among others, by EMS General Manager Jelena Matejic, EPS General Manager Dusan Zivkovic, Srbijagas General Manager Dusan Bajatovic, and Nis Mayor Dragoslav Pavlovic.
