Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic spoke with Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic about the activities on the project for construction of a gas power plant in Nis and stated that activities on the preparation and harmonization of planning documentation had begun.

– The spatial plan of the City of Nis has already been adopted, which represents the basis for further work on planning documents. At the meeting of all relevant participants in the project, we had the opportunity to hear from the designer the dynamics of implementation and key activities until the end of 2030, when the construction of the power plant is planned to be completed – said Djedovic Handanovic, the ministry announced.

She emphasized that the new plant would contribute to greater security of electricity supply and strengthening of energy stability in Serbia, with the additional benefit of improving the heat supply of Nis.

The Minister noted that absolute commitment from all those involved in the project was necessary, from the City of Nis, the Urban Planning Institute, the designer, to Srbijagas, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) in order to implement all the necessary actions for the preparation of the project as quickly as possible, and then the establishment of the joint venture between EPS and the Azerbaijani company SOCAR.

– At the same time, the Shareholders’ Agreement for the future joint venture between EPS and SOCAR will be harmonized, and then signed in the coming weeks – said the Minister.

Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic emphasized that the City of Nis and all local institutions were fully committed to the fastest possible preparation of the project and all actions necessary for the construction to begin as soon as possible.

It is reminded that in early June in Baku, EPS and SOCAR signed the Basic Terms of Cooperation for the Development, Construction and Management of the Gas Power Plant in Nis, which define the key principles for the establishment of a joint stock company for the development and implementation of the project, as well as the main commercial aspects of future cooperation.

The Gas Power Plant in Nis is a strategic project being implemented within the framework of cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, for which the countries signed an agreement in Belgrade in February this year, in the presence of the presidents of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by representatives of EPS, Srbijagas, the Nis District Heating Plant, the Nis Urban Planning Institute, a financial consultant and a designer.
