CERN in Belgrade, first time participant of EXPO

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has signed an agreement to participate in the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

CERN is one of the most important scientific research institutions in the world and will appear at the exhibition for the first time as an official international participant with its own exhibition space, the statement says.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarevic, Director of EXPO 2027 Belgrade Danilo Jerinic and Commissioner of the CERN section for EXPO 2027 Belgrade Ursula Bassler.

Bassler emphasized that it was a special pleasure for the organization to participate in such an exhibition for the first time as an official participant. She added that the CERN exhibition would bring complex scientific topics closer to a wide audience and show how international cooperation, knowledge and joint work contribute to the development of humanity.

Lazarevic pointed out that Serbia and CERN had long and strong ties that date back to 1954, when the then Yugoslavia was one of the founding countries of this organization. She emphasized that the CERN pavilion “will enable millions of visitors to discover the world of modern science in an accessible way and understand how important scientific discoveries are for the future.”

Jerinic assessed that CERN’s participation represented one of the most important steps in the preparations for the exhibition.

– For EXPO 2027 Belgrade, this is much more than the arrival of another participant. CERN’s presence is a strong confirmation that next year, institutions that shape the future of humanity will be presented in Belgrade – said Jerinic.

He said that, for more than seven decades, CERN had been bringing together the world’s best scientists in a joint mission of pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, but also developing technologies that were now part of everyday life.
