Legal status of Fantast Castle in Becej unresolved – Provincial Government might speed up procedures

The President of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojkovic, stated that she would advocate for speeding up the resolution of the legal status of Fantast Castle, in order to determine the ownership of this cultural asset and enable its restoration.

Gojkovic said that the restitution procedure was at the Restitution Agency at that time due to a complaint, stating that she had asked the Ministry of Economy to consider the possibility of speeding up the process.

– It is important that Fantast gets its legal resolution, that is, to see who has the rights and property, so that we can jointly help preserve this object – said Gojkovic.

She stated that, in addition to preserving the building as cultural heritage, it was also important to determine its future purpose so that it would gain usable value.

– The facility is in poor condition, the things inside have been looted and it is necessary to resolve the ownership issue as soon as possible – said Gojkovic.

Castle a symbol of Becej

The Mayor of the Municipality of Becej, Vuk Radojevic, said that Fantast was of exceptional importance to the municipality, as part of the cultural heritage and a symbol by which Becej was recognized, but that the local government had no jurisdiction over the complex.

– The local government’s hands are tied at the moment, because we have no jurisdiction over Fantast. However, we want to get involved, together with the competent state institutions, in its preservation – said Radojevic.

He reminded that there had previously been discussions with interested parties about the possibility of investing in the complex, but that this had required legal guarantees and security for a longer period.

– Until the property and legal relations are resolved, any investment is uncertain. Once that issue is resolved, I believe that we can find a model for the restoration and long-term preservation of Fantast – said Radojevic.
